Koh Samui, Thailand daily weather update; 2nd December, 2010

Today's weather;

Samui is dry but very cloudy and lots of rain is predicted over the next 7 days, nothing torrential like early last month, but good old fashioned monsoon rain, It just doesn't seem to stop this year! Current temp at 7am is 26C

On Koh Lanta we also have some clouds but more noticeable is the strong wind that is prevailing.
Current temp at 7am is 26C

Yesterday saw a wet Samui morning but around noon the weather turned for the better and the sun broke through heating everything up nicely. Max temp reached 29.3C

Lanta had also rain until noon, but after that clouds were the norm and the sun was nowhere to be seen. Max temp reached around 34C

Nice blog!

Is there likely to be a day of sunshine between 6-10th of December? Had a
trip planned with my family...been waiting for almost a year now! would be
pain if it rains a lot.

Should I have chosen a drier month? or am I just getting unlucky?

thanks

James

Hi James,

Thanks for checking in and the support!

Unfortunately it doesn’t look to good for the dates mentioned, rain seems to be predicted. Until mid December (starting early November) Samui is having its yearly rainy or monsoon season so looking for a different time frame to visit will easily raise your chances of having sunshine.

Good luck nonetheless!

too late! everything's already booked:(

Most places online say December is the start of the dry season so I feel a bit cheated to find it's still the monsoon season!

Hi James,

Can understand that everything is booked and that you feel frustrated, I would probably feel the same. However, the monsoon can go on until mid December and it’s no guarantee that it will stop than! My blog has an archive that goes back 3 years, on the left column of my blog, about half way down the page.

Obviously hotels around the world will try to get bookings as much as they can.

Good luck and maybe there will be more sunshine than predicted. My blog will give you some options do to during rainy days/hours.

Seems like the forecast has improved:)

What are the best hotels and restaurants in Samui? We are staying at the Six Senses and plan to eat at Krua, Za Zen and Dining on the Rocks (I know it's overpriced) but we're just gonna do it anyway.

thanks

James

Hi James,

Yes, the forecast has changed overnight, for the better! There’s still some rain predicted early next week though.

Regarding restaurants, have a look here, at my list of restaurants at all the places I visited, plenty of Samui ones.

Zazen is a good one, so is apparently dining on the rocks. The Cliff is also nice and I like
Sabeainglae in Lamai for Thai food.

Six Senses better be good for what they will be charging ;-)

Have fun and enjoy, wish I was going to be at some of your meals!
